Summer of August 2014

Gabe is on a 1 week break from school = havoc at home. Thankfully, Daddy has a few days break too so it`s not so taxing and we got to go to some places for some fun times.

We went to Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki with a friend, Uncle David who Gabe loves. Nice park with loads of rides for older kids, for Gabe it was just being able to run around and look see. Lucas, well as usualy, whined and cried in the car. He`s NOT a car seat lover that`s for sure.

And some nice shots just around

Lucas Eats....

I think both my kids have this hate relationship with purees and mushy food, coz even Lucas refuses to have any of those gooey baby cereal. Porridge, he`s just OK only, won`t eat much of it. I`ve been thinking about Baby Led Weaning (BLW) alot. Like alot. Thing is, i was scared of the choke issue. But after reading and having feedback, and Lucas` recent rejection of cereal n porridge, plus his milk intake was decreasing, i decided i had to do something other than panic.

So, yup i went ahead with BLW. I started soft...i steamed long beans and carrots and gave it to him. It was soft, but not too mushy so he could still hold it decently in his tiny hands. It wasn`t love at first sight, but he still gave it a go. I also gave honeydew, which he loves no doubt.

Then recently, like yesterday i moved on to meat...yup...a drumlet, small one to fit his hands. I didn`t add any flavour to it, i just put it in the oven to grill until it was gently browned and cooked. I served it to him with some carrots.

And...yes he LOVED it. Kept sucking on it and holding it up. And he even managed to grab a carroot stick with the other ahnd and alternated between both..smart kid. After like 20mins i thought he`d had enough and tried to take it away, only to have him cry and bang his hands on the tray. So i gave it back...again i tried to pry later but he cried, so in the end, the boy sucked on this yummy drumplet for about 45minutes....and here`s what`s left of Mr Drumlet...of course, i took away some of those meat pieces which were dangling and hanging loose so he wouldn`t choke..but he definetely did have his share of meat...

BLW is scary for new mums or those who have never thought young babies could do it. However it has recently been very very popular and it`s even healthy for babies. So instead of pureeing the meat i just gave him the meat...in the end i think the result is the same, it goes to their tummies.

I only took this approach coz i realised i tried so hard and many times and if your baby doesn`t like mush, there`s nothing you can do and to keep forcing it down his throat would ultimately scare him away from solids. And you know what, I`m glad iI`m doing the BLW...he seems happy so I`m happy.

Here are his foodie shots, enjoy
